Appeal Lodged - Shaun Alexander

18 March 2005

APPEAL LODGED - SHAUN ALEXANDER

The Lord Advocate has lodged an appeal against the 17 year punishment part of the life sentence imposed on Shaun Alexander for the murder of Nicola Johnstone or Alexander and of Kevin Braid. It is expected that this will be heard by the Appeal Court at Edinburgh in due course.

Note to Editors

The Lord Advocate has the right of an appeal against a sentence on the ground that it is unduly lenient.

The punishment part of a life sentence is the minimum sentence that must be served before a prisoner is considered by the Parole Board for release on licence.
