Mr McGowan, previously District Procurator Fiscal for Greenock, will now hold a commission for Aberdeen Sheriff Court District and will act as the personal representative of the Lord Advocate on a day to day basis. He will have local responsibility for the investigation and prosecution of crime and the investigation of sudden, suspicious and unexplained deaths

Causing Death by Driving
The Lord Advocate, Elish Angiolini QC, today wrote to the Justice Spokespersons in the Scottish Parliament to provide information on the implementation of the new offences introduced to the Road Traffic Act 1988 of Causing Death by Careless, or Inconsiderate, Driving (Section 2B) and Causing Death by Driving: Unlicensed, Disqualified, or Uninsured Drivers (Section 3ZB).

The Lord Advocate, the Right Hon Elish Angiolini QC, today announced the appointment of Anne Currie as Area Procurator Fiscal for Grampian. Ms Currie is an experienced prosecutor with a particular interest in ensuring that services are designed to meet the diverse needs of local communities.
The Crown Office today emphasised that Fiscals continue to take decisions on crimes reported to them based on all of the facts and circumstances of the individual alleged offence, and do so in the public interest at all times.

An Expert Advisory Group on Sexual Crime, established by the Lord Advocate, Elish Angiolini QC, met for the first time today in the Crown Office in Edinburgh. The permanent expert group brings together prosecutors, Rape Crisis Scotland, and the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland to consider best practice in all aspects of the investigation and prosecution of sexual crime

Following claims in the media that “sex fiends” are being offered fiscal fines to avoid sending them to court; that fiscal fines were being offered in cases which may have resulted in imprisonment; and that summary justice reform had resulted in the liberation of a person accused of rape, the Crown Office today insisted that such claims were unfounded.
