CRAIG JAMIESON CONVICTED FOR SECOND TIME OF DAUGHTER'S MURDER
At the High Court in Glasgow today, Craig Jamieson (DOB 28-04-1979) was convicted for the second time of the murder of his four-month-old daughter Abbie, at a flat in Dumbarton Road, Glasgow in 2008.
In April 2010, Jamieson was sentenced to life imprisonment for Abbie's murder following his conviction after trial, with a minimum period of 16 years, but in February 2011 his conviction was overturned by the Appeal Court. The Appeal Court judges granted the Crown's application for authority to bring a fresh prosecution. Jamieson was granted bail pending the new trial.
Abbie Jamieson was born on 22 September 2007 and died on 8 February 2008 as a result of severe head and abdominal injuries which the jury found were inflicted by her father Craig Jamieson.
Sentence has been deferred until 27 March at the High Court in Glasgow.
John Dunn, Area Procurator Fiscal for Glasgow and Strathclyde, said:
"Craig Jamieson's conviction for the brutal murder of his infant daughter Abbie demonstrates the commitment of the Crown to ensure that those who are guilty of murder and other serious offences against children will not escape justice".

Notes to editors
1. The re-trial arose as a result of the appeal court overturning Craig Jamieson's original conviction on the grounds that the trial judge had misdirected the jury in that case.
