Procurator Fiscal Deputes Vacancies

Starting salary £24,500 to £30,750 subject to experience, rising to £44,784 (Pay award pending). Vacancies are throughout Scotland, but primarily in Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness, Glasgow, Paisley and the Central Belt.

These posts offer a unique professional challenge. The Procurator Fiscal Depute is responsible for the direction of the police on local criminal enquiries, deciding when, and when not, to prosecute, as well as investigating all sudden and suspicious deaths, the conduct of Sheriff and District Court proceedings and preparing cases for prosecution in the High Court.

The role of Procurator Fiscal Depute takes common sense, flexibility, and sound knowledge of the criminal law system in Scotland. It is, in turn, stimulating and demanding, requiring first class communication skills and a demonstrable desire to exceed the high standards of probity, justice and fairness expected by the public.

We are seeking experienced criminal law practitioners with at least 6 years post qualifying experience at a starting salary of £30,750, with increases to £44,784 subject to performance. We are also looking for solicitors with up to 3 years post qualifying experience with a starting salary of £24,500. Solicitors with between 3 and 6 years experience will start at £28,000. You must be qualified in Scotland or expect to be admitted as a solicitor by 29 December 2006. These are excellent opportunities for lawyers who wish to expand their knowledge and experience of the Scottish criminal justice system.
